Mark Wheatley: Lighting Designer

Mark began his lighting career at the Cambridge Corn Exchange in 1994. Prior to this he had trained at the Bass Institute of Technology in London, making a name for himself around his hometown of Cambridge with various bands playing music ranging from rock to Big Band Jazz.

In 1997 he was offered his first tour as a Lighting Technician with Hollywood & Broadway starring Wayne Sleep and Lorna Luft. He has since been involved with almost every Flying Music production to date.

As a freelance designer he has toured extensively with such acts as Gary Moore, Runrig, Motorhead, Steve Earle, Leo Sayer and Paul Carrack including Paul's Birthday Show at the Royal Albert Hall in 2001.

Other events Mark has been involved in have included outdoor spectaculars with Randy Crawford, Lesley Garrett and Edwin Starr, and his regular summer busman's holiday at the Cambridge Folk Festival.

He has recently been employed to design some large corporate events at the GMEX Centre in Manchester and at Olympia in London.

The Rat Pack Live From Las Vegas has provided Mark with the opportunity to return to his earlier interest of Big Band music and the challenge of recreating the look and feel of the famous (infamous) Sands Hotel with the aid of the latest lighting technology.
