Sean Cavanagh: Set Designer

Sean has worked for many theatres throughout the UK and abroad. He is an Artistic Associate and Director of the York-based Riding Lights Theatre Company and a Founding Director of the UK Design Group Theatreset Ltd.

He was Head of Design for the prestigious Plymouth Theatre Royal for two years prior to the theatre's opening in 1982 and then for the first two years of its operation.

Productions designed include Pickwick for the Hungarian National Theatre in Budapest and Toby Robertson's acclaimed revival (for the first time in 400 years) of Shakespeare's Edward III, seen at the Cambridge and Taormina Festivals. Premiers include Christopher Neame's adaptation of Graham Greene's Monsignor Quixote, Robin Hawdon's adaptation of The Old Devils by Kingsley Amis, Jeremy Brook's translations of Ibsen's Enemy Of The People and Chekov's The Cherry Orchard, and Paul Burbridge's stage adaptation of Three Men In A Boat for Riding Lights.

Touring productions include M. Butterfly, Outside Edge, the musical The Sound Of Fury, Of Mice And Men, To Kill A Mockingbird, Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (currently in its 6th year) and the Riding Lights production of Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale.

Other projects include the design of Riding Lights new home, The Friargate Theatre, the opening productions of The Alchemist and Dick Turpin, multimedia events in San Francisco (The Rock) and Vienna (Rock Me Amadeus), and most recently, the World Premiere in Singapore of Judah Ben Hur - The Musical.

This is Sean's second production for Flying Music, having also designed the 2000, 2002 and 2004 tours of Dancing In The Streets.

West End credits include the settings for The Tempest, When Did You Last See Your Trousers...?, Sherlock Holmes - The Musical, Never The Sinner, Treasure Island , The Miracle Worker (Comedy Theatre), In Praise Of Love (Apollo Theatre), The Roy Orbison Story (Whitehall Theatre), The Aspern Papers (Wyndhams Theatre), Stepping Out - The Musical (Albery Theatre) and The Fire Raisers (Bridewell).

Sean is a graduate of RADA and the Central School of Art Design.
